Errigal, at 751 metres, is the tallest peak of the Derryveagh Mountains and the tallest peak in County Donegal. Errigal is also the most southern, steepest and highest of the mountain chain, called the “Seven Sisters”. The other Sisters are Muckish, Crocknalaragagh, Aghla Beg, Ardloughnabrackbaddy, Aghla More and Mackoght.
It takes around one hour to climb to the peak along a trail leading from the main road. Most climbers begin climbing Mount Errigal from the carpark off R251 which starts off across bogland. It is well worth it for the views – you can see all of Donegal from the peak.
